Plot
In Kevin Smith's newest film in the New Jersey series, everyone's favorite slackers Jay and Silent Bob are on a quest to stop the film that is based on the comic book, that is based on them. After they are tipped off by fellow Jersey dweller, and comic guru, Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee), that there is a film going into production based on the the comic characters they are the inspiration for, they head off to the comic creator Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) to collect their cheque for the film rights. When Holden introduces them to the Internet to get the scoop on their movie, they discover the numerous people that are trashing them and the movie on movie rumor sites. That's when they decide that the only way to save their "reputations" is to go to Hollywood and stop the movie. So our heroes set on an adventure from New Jersey to Hollywood, running into nuns, jewel thieves, wildlife officers, the Utah police (headed by Judd Nelson), several Hollywood heavyweights, and even the Scooby Doo gang! Smith's knack for poking fun at Hollywood and it's inhabitance shines through brilliantly in this film. By using actors that are not oppose to making fun of themselves such as James Van Der Beek, Jason Biggs, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Shannen Doherty, and Mark Hamill, makes the film even more hilarious. Though most people are sure to find the film amusing, those who are fans of Smith's other four films ("Clerks", "Mallrats", "Chasing Amy", and "Dogma") will find it more amusing with all the inside jokes known by all of Smith film fans that are sprinkled throughout the movie. As for Judd Nelson, he executed a terrific performance as the Utah police chief, by creating a perfect character from the Utah accent to the snake skin boots! If anyone wants an idea of how Judd looks in the film, check out Picture Of The Week #14 on Deb's website in the Past Pictures Of The Week section of the site. Kevin Smith speaking about meeting Judd Nelson .......
"Prior to (Jay) Mohr, the first person we met with that Monday morning, courtesy of our casting maven, Christine Sheaks, was Judd Nelson. This was a cool meeting, as Judd was in the then-and-still classic, The Breakfast Club. Aside from that, I'm also a big softie for a little picture called From the Hip, which was directed by Porkys helmer Bob Clark and written by a then un-Alley-ed David E. Kelley. If you've never seen it, try digging it up at a video store, especially if you love courtroom flicks like I do.
We talk about those flicks, as well as the myriad other flicks he's done, and the whole time I'm thinking to myself "I must get this guy into the flick, somewhere. He is so the f**king man." This is, after all, the genius who put the perfect inflection on the line "Hey, Cherry - do you belong to the Physics Club?" Judd snaps me out of my daze by thanking me for the shout-out I gave him in Dogma - a line I'd completely forgotten about prior to that. It's a mutual love-fest". (kindly sent by James).
